Post-CNY Reset

Post-CNY Deep Clean — Wawasan Puchong Family Home

Mrs. Ooi's 3-bed terrace in Taman Wawasan Puchong hosted over 60 relatives across five straight days of CNY reunion. The living room carpet had seen it all — food, drinks, kids, and more food. With the family returning to work the following week, they called Alpha for a full reset of the 1,500 sqft home before the new routine started.

Five days of CNY reunion — 60-plus relatives cycling through a 1,500 sqft terrace in Taman Wawasan, Puchong — leaves a house in a very specific kind of tired. Not broken, not even visibly dirty from across the room. But pressed into every fibre, rubbed into every cushion, settled on every surface in the kitchen. Mrs. Ooi messaged us on the afternoon of the sixth day. She had work the following Monday and wanted the house back.

The Brief

Mrs. Ooi had hosted her extended family for the full five-day CNY reunion stretch — first day open house, second day husband's side, third through fifth day the cousins, the uncles, the secondary school friends who somehow always show up on day four. By conservative count: over 60 visitors through the front door.

The brief she gave us was direct: full reset, not a surface wipe. She specifically mentioned the carpet in the living room, the sofa, and the kitchen — and that she needed the house to smell neutral by the time her kids went to sleep that night. She'd read our CNY cleaning guide for Puchong homes before calling, so she already knew what to expect from a proper post-festive scope.

Ariff (our Bandar Kinrara team lead) took the call and scheduled a 9am start for the following morning — the seventh day, which was a Saturday.

What We Found On Walkthrough

We do a 10-minute walkthrough before every deep-clean to confirm scope. What Ariff found at Taman Wawasan:

  • Carpet (living room, full area): Food crumbs embedded into the pile across the full seating zone — prawn crackers, pineapple tart crumbs, and the telltale orange-ring ghost left by Chinese tea and mandarin orange juice on the cream carpet sections. Standard CNY carpet fingerprint.
  • Sofa (L-shape, 3-seater + chaise): The armrests and the chaise headrest had a light oil shading — likely from hair product and skin contact over 60+ visitor-hours. The seat cushions were compacted but not stained. The back cushions were fine.
  • Kitchen: Five days of heavy CNY cooking — steamboat broth splatter on the backsplash, wok-frying oil residue on the range hood, greasy film on the cabinet door fronts and the stovetop surround. The sink drain was slow.
  • Balcony floor: Sticky underfoot from a combination of mandarin orange peel residue and drink spillage that had been mopped lightly but not fully neutralised. The stickiness was worse near the plastic chairs.

The Scope & Sequence

Six hours with two cleaners on a 1,500 sqft terrace is enough for a thorough post-festive reset if the sequencing is right. Ariff ran the morning:

  • 09:00 – 10:30 — Carpet steam extraction. The carpet machine went down first. Hot-water extraction on the full living room carpet area — two passes, the second with a spot-treatment pre-spray on the tea and juice rings. The pre-spray dwell time was 8 minutes before the extraction pass.
  • 10:30 – 11:30 — Sofa shampoo. Dry-foam shampoo on the upholstered sections while the carpet dried. Extra attention on the armrests and chaise headrest where the oil shading was worst. Cushion covers spot-cleaned where accessible. Foam extracted with the upholstery tool.
  • 11:30 – 13:00 — Kitchen full degrease. Range hood mesh removed and soaked in degreaser solution. Cabinet door fronts wiped with a citrus degreaser — left-to-right, top to bottom. Stovetop grates lifted and scrubbed. Backsplash cleaned section by section. Drain cleared with baking soda and hot water. The mesh went back up only after it passed a visual check under the window light.
  • 13:00 – 13:20 — Lunch break. Both cleaners ate outside the unit.
  • 13:20 – 14:30 — Balcony reset + bathrooms. Balcony floor mopped twice — first pass with a floor degreaser, second pass clean water. The stickiness was gone after the first pass. Bathrooms: toilet bowls, sink, shower glass, and floor tiles. Nothing severe — standard post-hosting clean.
  • 14:30 – 15:00 — Final wipe and handover. All door frames, light switches, and power-point face plates. Floors mopped throughout. Furniture repositioned. Mrs. Ooi walked through at 3pm.

What Got The Most Attention

Three areas absorbed the most time and product:

  • Carpet stain extraction — the tea and juice rings. Chinese tea and mandarin orange juice on a cream carpet is a specific problem. The tannins in the tea and the citric acid in the juice both oxidise into the pile over 5 days if they're only blotted, not extracted. The pre-spray dwell was essential here. After the extraction pass, the rings were reduced to near-invisible — the kind of result that only shows as a faint shadow in raking afternoon light. Mrs. Ooi was happy with it.
  • Sofa headrest oil shading. This one is chronic on CNY sofa use — 60 visitors sitting back, heads resting, skin and hair contact repeated over 5 days. The dry-foam method works well here because it doesn't over-wet the fabric, which matters on a sofa that needs to be usable that same evening. Two foam applications on the headrest brought the shading back to baseline.
  • Range hood post-frying residue. Five days of CNY cooking means the range hood took the full load of wok frying, steamboat, and festive-scale baking. The mesh was the worst of it — 45 minutes in degreaser soak before it was clean enough to reassemble. The hood body and filter frame were wiped while the mesh was soaking.

Handover & Customer Reaction

Mrs. Ooi walked the house at 3pm sharp. She went straight to the carpet — pressed the heel of her palm into the cream section near the coffee table where the worst tea ring had been. Lifted it, looked at it, nodded. "OK, I can live with that," she said, which from a customer who had been very specific about her brief is a strong signal.

The kitchen was her second stop. She opened the range hood and ran a finger along the underside of the body. Clean. She checked the cabinet door fronts at the corner where grease tends to pool. Clean. She said "this is what I wanted."

The follow-up message came the next morning — she reported that the house smelled completely neutral overnight, that her kids hadn't commented on anything (which she said was the real test), and that she had already decided to book us for next year on the same day after the last reunion night. We've added her to the post-CNY pre-book list for 2027.

For homes in Taman Wawasan and the surrounding Puchong service area, post-festive deep cleans are one of our most requested seasonal jobs — see also the Puchong Utama Hari Raya reset for a comparable post-festive scope.

★★★★★

We hosted over 60 relatives for 5 days of CNY — the house was exhausted, and so were we. Alpha arrived on the 6th day and in 6 hours it was like CNY never happened. Carpets, sofa, kitchen, balcony — all reset. The smell overnight was completely neutral. I've already locked them in for next year, same day after the last reunion.
